Hi, I’m Chon.

I am a software developer living in Ventura, California.

Recently I’ve focused on iOS development, but my history includes 8 years of professional 3d graphics coding across multiple platforms, 3 years of Swift development, and 20 years of team management, leadership development, and coaching non-profits for refocusing and organizational turnarounds.

Current Projects

My recent project is Drink to Health, which is an iOS application that makes it easy to track what you drink, by using gestures to quickly enter beverages do you can see if you hit your water targets, while also limiting caffeine, sugar and alcohol. I wrote it to try some user interface ideas with radial menus. It is written in SwiftUI.

Past Work

My first actual paying job was writing dBaseIII+ code in 10th grade. My dad needed some donation tracking software that could satisfy IRS guidelines for non-profits, generate donation letters and deposit slips. He bought a Compaq 386/16 and since I was writing BASIC programs on my Amiga 1000, he figured I could do it!

After graduating with a B.S. in Physics from the California Institute of Technology in 1993, I worked at SimGraphics Engineering in South Pasadena on graphics pipeline development for the Panasonic 3DO. Later I contributed to the VActor performance animation system where we used proprietary software on Silicon Graphics computers for facial and full-body real-time motion capture using mechanical waldos, gloves, magnetic and optical systems.

In 1996 I moved to Santa Barbara as part of the Maya development team at Alias | Wavefront. I developed virtual device support for playing back recorded mocap data into Maya, worked on file referencing and the file format, non-linear animation systems, the Maya API and eventually custom engineering for high-profile customers.

In late 2002 I changed careers to focus on churches and non-profits in the Southern California area through the Foursquare Church. Over the next 20 years, I worked with churches to be a benefit in their community by creating safe spaces for youth, by helping with legal, financial and property challenges in setting up non-profit community support programs and food assistance programs. My organization work over those 20 years included directly leading 12 different organizations going through significant changes and led them through the transition process into good outcomes. Ultimately, I ended up being the assistant supervisor overseeing 150 different organizations.
